GAUTENG RECEIVES MORE THAN 805 000 APPLICATIONS FOR 2027 SCHOOL YEAR
The Gauteng Department of Education has received 805 688 online applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners for the 2027 academic year.
The department says submitted documents will be verified before the placement process begins. Placement will follow a prescribed priority order, starting with learners whose home addresses fall within a school’s feeder zone and are closest to the school.
Other factors include having a sibling already attending the school, the learner’s previous school being nearby, a parent’s workplace being within the feeder zone, and the learner’s home address being within or beyond 30 kilometres of the school.
Guardians with outstanding documents have until 12:00 noon on 11 September 2026 to submit certified copies. The department has urged parents to ensure that proof of home address is submitted, as it plays an important role in determining placement.
Placement offers are expected to start on Thursday, 15 October 2026 and will be sent to guardians via SMS.
Parents and guardians will have seven days to accept a placement or provisional placement offer.
