JMPD officers arrested a man in Diepkloof after allegedly spotting him firing a firearm into the air near Diepkloof Square.
The officers were patrolling along Immink Drive and Eben Cuyler Street when they heard gunshots coming from the direction of the shopping centre.
They proceeded towards the area and allegedly saw a man driving a black Volkswagen Polo while pointing a firearm through the vehicle window and discharging it into the air.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect allegedly tried to flee but was intercepted.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a black firearm from the cubby compartment.
The suspect could not produce documentation for the firearm.
Officers also discovered that the vehicle’s registration number did not correspond with its licence disc.
The suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and fraud and detained at Diepkloof SAPS for further investigation.
