Deputy President Paul Mashatile has pledged government intervention to address water supply challenges affecting Bronkhorstspruit and other parts of the country.
Mashatile made the remarks during a visit to the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Works in Tshwane following a recent water crisis that affected the municipality.
He identified ageing infrastructure and water leaks, which contribute to non-revenue water losses, as key challenges requiring urgent attention.
Mashatile said the Water Task Team, which he chairs, and the Water Crisis Committee were established in anticipation of growing pressure on the countryβs water sector.
He added that interventions were underway in Bronkhorstspruit, while the responsible Minister would urgently engage with water challenges affecting Gauteng and other parts of South Africa.
Mashatile said government was working across all three spheres to restore reliable access to clean water and prevent similar disruptions in the future.
However, residents will be looking for concrete action and lasting solutions as water supply challenges continue to affect communities.
